Parables of the Qur’an II
Episode 25
In the name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All prayers and peace of Allah be upon our master, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)
Today is a review of the first half of Musa’s (AS) life story. We will go over all the basic themes of each story we covered in the first half of Musa’s (AS) life and the different chapters which we covered that mention Musa’s (AS) story like Al-Baqara, Al-A'raf, Ta-Ha, Ash-Shu'ara and Al-Qasas, to remind you of the various stages of his life along with a video review of the different places where we shot the episodes. Tomorrow will also be a similar review of the second half of Musa’s (AS) story, and the day after will be the death of Musa (AS).
Episode 4 (Entrusting (committing) one's soul to Allah (SWT)): This was the story of Musa’s (AS) mother’s amazing tawakkul (reliance) and the birth of Musa (AS). Remember the formula:
Tawakkul + Doing everything you can = Success + Protection from Allah (SWT)
“And We revealed to Mûsa’s mother, (saying), “Suckle him; so, when you fear for him, then cast him in the main; and do not fear, nor grieve. Surely We will turn him back to you, and will make him one of the Emissaries.” (TMQ, 28:7) Weren’t these two promises fulfilled for Musa’s (AS) mother by Allah (SWT)?
Episode 7 (Helping the oppressed and weak): Remember Musa’s (AS) first trip to Madian, when he helped the two girls get water from the well, even though he just finished a tiring eight days of barefoot walking? The one who stands up for the rights of the weak and oppressed gets Allah’s (SWT) support and attains a very high rank.
Episode 8 (Be flexible and adapt to different conditions throughout your life): Remember the story when Musa (AS) went from being the Amir (ruler) of Egypt to a shepherd, herding cattle in Madian in the middle of the desert for 10 years without having ego problems linked to his past?
Episode 9 (Do something so Allah (SWT) chooses you to work for Him): Remember Musa (AS) on the Mount of Tur, after living in Madian for 10 years he was heading back to Egypt when Allah (SWT) chose him to become His Prophet and assigned him his mission, which was to help the weak sons of Israel and to free them from the oppression of Firaawn. The best job you can do for Allah (SWT) is to invite people to Islam. Also remember the hidden meaning behind the two miracles, the stick and the white hand? The snake was a symbol for the trademark of Firaawn and the white hand was a challenge to the scientists who chemically preserved the bodies of the mummies.
Episode 10 (Balance between bravery and wisdom): Remember the first confrontation between Musa (AS) and Firaawn, the first encounter between Truth and Falsehood?
“Go, (both of you), to Firaawn; (Pharaoh) surely he has tyrannized. So speak (you both) leniently (Literally: say a lenient) to him, that possibly he would remind himself or would be apprehensive.” (TMQ, 20: 44) The lesson here was to be brave but to also act wisely and balance between the two. Musa (AS) was brave in facing Firaawn but he was also commanded by Allah (SWT) to speak leniently to the tyrant Firaawn.
Episode 11 (Always stand by the Truth and never compromise for personal gain): Remember the encounter with the magicians in front of the big crowd?
Episode 14 (Feel the Power, Omnipotence and Magnificence of Allah (SWT)): The last review for today will be the story of the splitting of the sea and the end of Firaawn’s life, which was also the fulfillment of Musa’s (AS) first mission of freeing the sons of Israel from the oppression of Firaawn.
Today we covered seven lessons that we learned from the story of Musa (AS) in the Qur’an which should help us become alive with the Qur’an by reading it with understanding and pondering upon its beautiful message for humanity, for this is the ultimate objective of our program this Ramadan.
